FIREPLACES & STOVES(posted 12/31/2009)
Burning wood in home fireplaces and stoves on “bad air” nights became illegal at the end of October. Lighting up is banned during “Spare the Air” alerts. Burning wood is deemed a health threat and the air district will impose a fixed fine of $400 for second time violators. The air district will give the public more advance notice this year of no-burn alerts; 10 hours instead of 2 hours.
